Hong Kong Buybacks Weekly (Apr 2026)

Abstract: We analyzed Hong Kong Exchange buyback data for the week ended April 10th, covering 71 companies that repurchased a combined HKD 4,256 million in shares, down 7.8% from HKD 4,608 million the prior week, with the number of participating companies 13.4% lower week-on-week. The top three buyback programs were dominated by large-cap names: Tencent (700 HK) led with HKD 2,302 million (0.05% of shares outstanding), followed by Xiaomi (1810 HK) at HKD 643 million (0.08% of shares outstanding), and AIA (1299 HK) at HKD 610 million (0.07% of shares outstanding). On a 30-day basis, total buybacks reached HKD 13,240 million across 106 companies, with Tencent again leading at HKD 3,800 million, followed by China Hongqiao (1378 HK) at HKD 1,823 million and Xiaomi at HKD 1,669 million. Over the trailing 12 months, Tencent has repurchased HKD 69,768 million worth of shares, representing 1.33% of shares outstanding, with AIA and Xiaomi as distant runners-up at HKD 12,888 million and HKD 11,675 million respectively.
