HK Short Interest Weekly: Lenovo, Sunny Optical, China Life, China Resources Land, China Hongqiao

Abstract: We analyzed the latest HK SFC report for aggregate short positions as of May 22nd. The aggregate short value for equities decreased by $780m (-0.6%) week-on-week but increased by $1,643m (+1.2%) over the preceding four weeks. The largest short increases over the past week were led by Lenovo (992 HK, +$726m, +35.4%), Sunny Optical (2382 HK, +$254m, +23.9%), and China Life (2628 HK, +$241m, +30.3%). The largest short covers over the past week were in TraHK HSI ETF (2800 HK, -$229m, -97.3%), Zijin Mining (2899 HK, -$213m, -6.1%), and China Resources Land (1109 HK, -$110m, -17.6%), with China Hongqiao (1378 HK) also covering significantly (-$108m, -11.1%). Over four weeks, Lenovo (+$721m, +35.0%), Midea (+$524m, +154.7%), and China Life (+$513m, +97.7%) saw the largest short buildups, while CATL (-$539m, -18.2%) and Alibaba (-$486m, -19.1%) led short covers.
