Abstract: We analyzed ASX short interest for stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m as of May 8th, with aggregated short interest totaling USD 45,236m. Short interest increased 2.7% over the week, outpacing the ASX 200 index which rose only 0.2%. The largest weekly increase in short value was BHP (BHP AU), up USD 623m (+30.9%), followed by Commonwealth Bank of Australia up USD 169m (+5.0%), National Australia Bank up USD 127m (+11.8%), Westpac up USD 118m (+7.9%), and Telstra up USD 64m (+26.7%). On the decreasing side, Woodside Energy saw the largest short reduction at -USD 94m (-7.5%), followed by Woolworths at -USD 64m (-10.2%) and Coles at -USD 62m (-21.8%). Capricorn Metals saw a notable rise in short intensity, with ADT multiple increasing by 1.8x to 4.1x, while Wesfarmers short value rose USD 53m (+16.1%) week on week.
