ASX Short Interest Weekly (May 15th): Insurance Australia, Rio Tinto, 4Dmedical, Goodman, Lottery

Abstract: We analyzed ASX short interest for stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m as of May 15th. Aggregate short interest was USD 44,770m, down 1.0% from USD 45,236m the prior week, outperforming the ASX200 index which fell 1.3% over the same period. The largest short increases by value were led by Rio Tinto (RIO AU, +USD 625m), BHP (BHP AU, +USD 174m), and Goodman (GMG AU, +USD 137m), while the largest decreases were in Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA AU, -USD 325m), Lynas Rare Earths (LYC AU, -USD 132m), and REA (REA AU, -USD 131m). Notable percentage-of-float shorts include Sigma Pharmaceuticals (SIG AU) at 26.4% and Bapcor (BAP AU) at 21.6%. Insurance Australia (IAG AU) and 4Dmedical (4DX AU) were notable smaller-cap movers, with short value rising 39.9% and 65.7% respectively week-on-week.
