Abstract: We analyzed ASX short interest data as of May 29th for stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m, with aggregate short interest of USD48,461m, up 10.2% week-on-week while the ASX200 index rose only 0.9%. The largest shorts by value were Rio Tinto (USD4,321m), Commonwealth Bank of Australia (USD4,160m), and BHP (USD3,174m). The biggest weekly increases in short value were Commonwealth Bank of Australia (+USD787m), Pilbara Minerals (+USD777m), and BHP (+USD756m), while Wesfarmers (+USD303m) and Transurban (+USD198m) also saw notable builds. On the cover side, REA Group (-USD104m), Woodside Energy (-USD84m), and Insurance Australia (-USD69m) led the short reductions. Pilbara Minerals saw the sharpest ADT-adjusted increase (+7.4x ADT), while Scentre's short interest surged 211.9% in dollar terms week-on-week.
