ASX Short Interest Weekly (May 1st): Brambles, National Australia Bank, Scentre, Nextdc

Abstract: We analyzed ASX short interest as of May 1st, covering stocks with market capitalization of at least USD 100m. Aggregated short interest totaled USD 44,032m, up from USD 43,474m the prior week, a 1.3% increase, while the ASX 200 index declined 0.6% over the same period. The largest short by value was Rio Tinto at USD 3,545m, followed by Commonwealth Bank of Australia at USD 3,380m and BHP at USD 2,018m. On weekly changes, the biggest increases in short value were Rio Tinto (+USD 268m), National Australia Bank (+USD 143m), and Brambles (+74%, +USD 49m), while the largest decreases were Woolworths (-USD 78m), BHP (-USD 70m), and Northern Star Resources (-USD 53m, -18.5%). Nextdc saw the sharpest rise in short intensity, with short value equivalent to 23.1x ADT, up 2.6x week-on-week.
