HK Short Interest Weekly: Tencent, Hansoh Pharmaceutical, HSBC, CNOOC, Petrochina

Abstract: We analyzed the latest HK SFC report for aggregate short positions as of April 2nd, 2026. The aggregate short value for equities increased by $242m (+0.2%) week-over-week but decreased by $33m (-0.0%) over the preceding four weeks. On the short increase side, Hansoh Pharmaceutical (3692 HK) saw the largest single-stock rise with shorts up $177m (+28.1%) over one week, followed by HSBC (5 HK) up $174m (+18.8%). On the short cover side, Meituan (3690 HK) saw the largest reduction at -$282m (-9.9%), followed by Xiaomi (1810 HK) at -$259m (-4.8%), Tencent (700 HK) at -$203m (-6.0%), CNOOC (883 HK) at -$155m (-24.9%), and Petrochina (857 HK) at -$123m (-10.3%). Over the four-week period, the largest short buildups were in Alibaba (9988 HK) at +$633m (+30.6%) and CATL (3750 HK) at +$614m (+33.2%), while Ping An Insurance (2318 HK) saw the largest four-week short cover at -$1,179m (-12.6%).
