Abstract: We analyzed the Hong Kong SFC report on aggregate short positions as of September 4th. The aggregate short value for HK equities decreased by $3,052m (-2.1%) week-over-week and decreased by $2,744m (-1.9%) over the preceding four weeks, reflecting broad short covering across the market. The largest week-over-week short covers were in Tencent (-$390m, -9.6%), Cathay Pacific Airways (-$373m, -76.6%), BYD (-$297m, -9.7%), Kingdee (-$235m, -45.1%), and Meituan (-$233m, -11.8%). The largest week-over-week short builds were in Lenovo (+$244m, +5.5%), CMB (+$165m, +10.2%), Knowledge Atlas (+$164m, +19.1%), Midea (+$111m, +7.1%), and Minimax (+$96m, +17.0%).
