Abstract: We analyzed the latest HK SFC report for aggregate short positions as of July 31st. The aggregate short value for equities decreased by $2,846m (-2.0%) week-on-week but increased by $7,269m (+5.4%) over the preceding four weeks. On the short increase side, Alibaba (9988 HK) led with a $348m (+14.6%) weekly rise, followed by Xiaomi (1810 HK) at +$180m (+3.7%) and Zijin Gold Intl (2259 HK) at +$147m (+18.8%). On the short cover side, CCB (939 HK) saw the largest reduction at -$417m (-22.7%), followed by Tencent (700 HK) at -$358m (-8.4%), China Mobile (941 HK) at -$211m (-23.0%), Yofc (6869 HK) at -$211m (-37.4%), and Smic (981 HK) at -$207m (-33.2%). Over four weeks, Alibaba accumulated the largest short build at +$1,208m (+79.1%), while Kingboard Laminates (1888 HK) led short covers at -$968m (-64.7%).
