Abstract: We analyzed Bursa Malaysia short interest data for stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m as of Sep 4th. Aggregate short interest was USD 1,541m, down 1.1% from USD 1,558m the prior week, slightly more than the KLSE index decline of 1.0%. The largest short positions by value were Gamuda (USD 188m), Malayan Banking (USD 167m), and Press Metal (USD 84m). The biggest weekly increases in short value were RHB Bank (up USD 21m, +79.6%), CIMB (up USD 13m, +42.4%), and Gamuda (up USD 12m, +7.1%). The largest short covering was in Malayan Banking (down USD 49m, -22.6%), Tenaga Nasional (down USD 17m, -41.4%), and United Plantations (down USD 11m, -44.0%).
