Bursa Short Interest Weekly (Sep 11th): Malayan Banking, RHB Bank, YTL, Greatech Technology, Genting

Abstract: We analyzed Bursa Malaysia short interest for stocks with market capitalization of at least USD100m as of September 11th, with total aggregated short interest at USD1,499m, down from USD1,541m the prior week. Short interest declined 2.7% over the week, outpacing the KLSE index decline of 1.3%. The dominant mover was Malayan Banking (MAY MK), where short value fell USD72m (-43.3%) to USD95m, the largest weekly decrease in absolute terms. On the increase side, RHB Bank (RHBBANK MK) led with short value rising USD16m (+32.5%) to USD63m, followed by Petronas Chemicals (PCHEM MK) up USD12m (+30.2%) to USD52m and Genting (GENT MK) up USD1.7m (+15.7%) to USD12m. YTL Power International (YTLP MK) also saw shorts ease, down USD2.4m (-5.2%) to USD44m.
