Abstract: We analyzed Bursa Malaysia short interest for stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m as of Aug 14th. Aggregate short interest was USD 1,419m, up 3.6% week-on-week, while the KLSE index fell 0.5% over the same period. The largest short positions by value were Gamuda (USD 161m), Malayan Banking (USD 148m), and YTL Power International (USD 57m). The biggest weekly increases in short value were Malayan Banking (up USD 35m, +30.7%), Tenaga Nasional (up USD 7.9m, +28.8%), and Kelington (up USD 1.7m, +25.0%). Heineken and Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia saw the sharpest rises in short intensity relative to trading volume, each adding over 2.4x ADT, while YTL Power International recorded the largest weekly decrease in short value, falling USD 7.9m (-12.1%).
