ASX Short Interest Weekly (Jul 31st): Ampol, Origin Energy, Stockland, Dexus Property, Transurban

Abstract: We analyzed ASX short interest data as of July 31st, covering stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m. Aggregate short interest totaled USD 46,939m, up from USD 45,826m the prior week, a 2.4% increase that slightly outpaced the ASX 200's 2.3% gain. On the short increase side, Rio Tinto led with a USD 199m rise, followed by WiseTech Global (+USD 104m), National Australia Bank (+USD 92m), Westpac (+USD 85m), and Woodside Energy (+USD 75m). On the short decrease side, Ampol saw the largest reduction at -USD 92m (-45.9%), followed by Woolworths (-USD 61m), Origin Energy (-USD 51m), Lynas Rare Earths (-USD 49m), and BHP (-USD 45m). In ADT-multiple terms, Dexus Property saw the largest increase (+2.67x ADT) while Ampol saw the sharpest decline (-3.09x ADT), with Transurban and Stockland also notable for their ADT multiple movements.
