Abstract: We analyzed ASX short interest for stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m as of July 17th, with aggregate short interest at USD 45,470m, up 0.1% from USD 45,433m the prior week. Short interest increased modestly while the ASX200 index declined 0.1%, indicating a slight divergence between short positioning and index direction. On the increase side, Genesis Minerals (GMD AU) saw the sharpest surge in ADT-adjusted shorts, up 5.9x ADT and USD 79m in short value (+25.0%), while ASX Ltd (ASX AU) added USD 87m (+21.2%) and Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA AU) saw the largest absolute dollar increase at USD 191m (+5.1%). On the decrease side, Atlas Arteria (ALX AU) recorded the steepest ADT-adjusted reduction at -2.75x ADT with short value falling USD 33m (-29.5%), while CSL (CSL AU) shed USD 75m (-15.8%) and Aristocrat Leisure (ALL AU) declined USD 50m (-17.8%) in short value.
