ASX Short Interest Weekly (Jul 24th): South32, Northern Star Resources, Stockland, Brambles

Abstract: We analyzed ASX short interest for stocks with market cap of at least USD 100m as of July 24th, with aggregate short interest at USD 45,884m, up 0.9% from USD 45,470m the prior week, while the ASX200 index declined 0.3%. On the increase side, South32 (S32 AU) saw the largest percentage jump among highlighted names, with short value rising USD 93m (+59.8%) to USD 248m and ADT multiple expanding 1.8x, while Northern Star Resources (NST AU) short value increased USD 62m (+38.8%) to USD 221m and Stockland (SGP AU) short value rose USD 57m (+23.3%) to USD 299m. On the decrease side, James Hardie Industries (JHX AU) short value fell USD 79m (-20.6%) to USD 304m and Brambles short interest also declined. The largest absolute short positions remain concentrated in the major banks and miners, led by Commonwealth Bank (USD 4,184m), Rio Tinto (USD 3,841m), and BHP (USD 3,066m).
