Thailand Short Interest Weekly (May 22nd): True, Gulf Energy Development

Abstract: We analyzed short interest data for the Stock Exchange of Thailand as of May 22nd, covering stocks with minimum market capitalization of USD100 million and minimum short interest of USD5 million. Aggregate short interest stood at USD3,184m, up 2.7% week-on-week, outpacing the SET50 index which rose just 0.3%. The largest short positions by value were in Delta Electronics (USD396m), Airports of Thailand (USD246m), and Advanced Info Service (USD179m). The biggest weekly increase in short value was in Delta Electronics (+USD23m), followed by Airports of Thailand (+USD19m) and Gulf Energy Development (+USD9m, +12.8%). The largest weekly decrease was in True (-USD16m, -49.1%), with Bangkok Dusit (-USD9m) and Kasikornbank (-USD7m) also seeing notable short covering. By z-score, Cal-Comp Electronics (+2.5 sigma), Bangkok Commercial Asset Management (+2.2 sigma), and Muangthai Capital (+2.2 sigma) showed the sharpest statistical increases in short positioning.
